MCKINNON GIVES BACK TO OKC COMMUNITY
For each house sold McKinnon will give percentage to local charity to help families in need
OKLAHOMA CITY – McKinnon Family Properties today announced a new community giving partnership with the Oklahoma City-based charity Heart & Home Makeovers. The local and family-owned real estate investment firm announced for each house they sell they will donate a percentage to the charity to fund house renovations for OKC families in need.
“We love what Deidra and her team does at Heart & Home,” said Brandon Coon, owner at McKinnon Family Properties. “Their mission is to restore a healing environment in a house where a family has experienced loss or trauma. This complements our mission to help Oklahoma families with their property needs.”
To be the recipient of a renovation, a family must be nominated for a home renovation or improvement project through Heart & Home’s website. After a family has been approved for the renovation, executive director, Deidra Livingood, creates a budget, design, repair and renovation plan. All of the work is done by volunteers and local companies that donate their time and services. As such, Heart & Home is able to complete major renovations at about a third of the typical cost.
“I experienced the loss of my father at age 7 and then my husband at age 36,” said Deidra Livingood. “So I know how trauma manifests in a family’s house. It’s always my goal to take a room and transform it into something that brings a sense of peace and beauty when a family walks into it.
“We are so thankful for McKinnon’s new partnership. They have already funded one renovation; we can’t wait to get started on the next project. We are going to be able to reach so many more families thanks to their support,” said Livingood.
